The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

In this darker, more dramatic remake of the classic teen show, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has all the makings of an excellent teen drama. Sabrina is a normal teenager, aside from the fact that she's half a witch and lives with her two witch aunts, a disgraces warlock and her familiar, a black cat named Salem.

In typical teen drama style, once she turns 16, she must choose whether or not to sign her name in the Book of the Beast and devote her life to the Dark Lord, or continue living her life as a normal high school student. Filled with witchy shenanigans, disturbing rituals and plenty of high school drama, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina makes perfect binge-watching material, especially now that it's coming close to Halloween.

Pretty Little Liars

A teen classic from the early 2010s, Pretty Little Liars was a pop culture sensation and remains a very binge-able tv show to this day. Four normal high school students have their worlds rocked by the disappearance of their clique's leader, Alison and find themselves embroiled in the mystery of Alison's disappearance when a mysterious figure going only by the letter "A" starts to blackmail them.

With plenty of humourous moments and more than a few forbidden romances, PLL is all the suspense and intrigue of a murder mystery mixed with a typical high school drama and coming-of-age story.

Riverdale

One of America's most beloved comic book series brought to life but with quite a few twists and turns thrown in, Riverdale has gained a huge following of fans who love the show and those who love to hate it.

Riverdale's bizarre plotline, over-the-top characters, dark 80's Americana aesthetic and typical teen romance make the show highly enjoyable to binge-watch, even if you're just laughing at the characters and the many many ridiculous decisions they make.

End Of The F***ing World

Alyssa, a troubled teen looking to escape her tumultuous home life teams up with James, who kills cute animals as a hobby and is looking to start killing humans too. Together they embark in a road trip across England in search of Alyssa's father, who left when she was a child, each with their own hidden motives.

As disturbing as the story premise may sound, somehow, a story about a teenager who has convinced himself that he's a psychopath and is looking for someone to murder manages to become a heart-warming story of love and adolescence.

Gossip Girl

What's not to love about Gossip Girl? From the outlandish late 2000s fashion to the snobby rich-kid shenanigans, Gossip Girl is undeniably iconic. Set in New York's Upper East Side, Gossip Girl follows the amoral lives of some not-so-normal high school students in New York, offspring to some of America's richest and most elite families, and their private school (or private jet) escapades.

Most of their dirty deeds would likely go unnoticed, were it not for a whistle-blowing anonymous blogger writing under the pseudonym of "Gossip Girl" who exposes their secrets and stirs up rumours.

Jane The Virgin

Set in the style of a modern telenovela, Jane the Virgin might, at first glance, appear to be a melodramatic and downright ridiculous story, which it is (it's a telenovela, after all).

Dig a little deeper, however, and you'll find a heartwarming story of love, family and female empowerment. Artfully tackling a variety of difficult social issues such as immigration, racism, abortion and women's rights in its own wacky and playful way, Jane the Virgin is much more than just a story of a pregnant virgin.

Sex Education

Sex education is primarily a teen drama, but it's also so much more. The show tackles the complex emotions and issues that arise around sex and relationships through the mother-son duo Jean Milburn and Otis Milburn. What ensues is a delightfully hilarious, insightful and moving teen drama that should be on everyone's netflix watch list.

The Vampire Diaries

Nothing epitomises the trashy teen tv show genre more than vampires, and the vampire diaries has a lot of them. In fact, two of the main vampires are drop-dead-gorgeous vampires themselves (pun very much intended).

Based on a series of books, this TV adaptation captured the hearts and minds of many a crazed teenage girl whilst it aired. Featuring not one, but two love triangles, mysterious doppelgangers, forces of evil, angsty teenage diary entries and some witchcraft thrown in for good measure, The Vampire Diaries has all the ingredients for the perfect teen supernatural drama and remains binge-worthy to this day.

13 Reasons Why

13 Reasons Why has stirred up a lot of controversy over the years, some of it warranted for sure. Nonetheless though, if you're looking for a TV show that's a little darker than the rest. It follows the main character, Clay, as he slowly unravels the mystery of his high school crush's suicide through a series of cassettes she left behind, exposing many of the students of Liberty High.

The 100

This post-apocalyptic teen drama transports you to a world where human life on earth is destroyed after the nuclear apocalypse, aside from the residents of 12 international space stations.

Struggling to continue survival in space, 100 human teens are sent down to earth for the first time to test the habitability of this destroyed planet. What ensues, of course, is a race for survival, warring factions and plenty of unexpected post-apocalyptic romances as the 100 struggle to make it.
